KANGAROO ISLAND:
KANGAROO ISLAND
If Aussie wildlife and wilderness are your thing, then Kangaroo Island is definitely for you! Walk among wild sea lions as they doze on the beach. Meet the locals (that's echidnas, fairy penguins, platypus, koalas and the island's own species of kangaroo) in their natural environment, and hike through untouched bush land. Then, relive it all over a glass of fine island wine at the end of the day.
Discover Kangaroo Island with Connections
One third of South Australia's Kangaroo Island is protected as conservation land and national parks, and half the island has never been cleared of native vegetation. You can walk amidst huge weather-sculptured granite boulders at Remarkable Rocks, and roll down the snowy-white sand dunes of Little Sahara.
At 150 kilometres long and 55 kilometres wide, the island is Australia's third largest, after Tasmania and Melville Island, and the perfect size to explore over a couple of days.
South Australia - Adelaide/Kangaroo Island Weather Guide| Month | Minimum | Maximum |
|---|
| Mar.-May | 12.5°C | 22.4°C |
| Jun.-Aug. | 8°C | 15°C |
| Sept.-Nov. | 11.6°C | 21.7°C |
| Dec.-Feb. | 16.5°C | 28.3°C |
Relatively mild conditions are experienced during both summer and winter, typical of the insular character of island climates. At times, cold ocean breezes make windproof clothing necessary, while central areas of the island occasionally experience temperatures of 35°C - 40°C in the summer months.
